Pembangunan Sistem Peringatan Dini di BMG 2006 - 2010

Abstract

Indonesia is situated in an area which is prone to quakes, tsunami, and climate change. As a country encircled by the ring of fire, lying between two continents, two oceans and consisting of some big islands, Indonesia faces two extremist potential of disasters: volcanic or tectonic earthquake and climate.
To eliminate the impact of the disasters, within five years to come, BMG has been focusing its activity to develop the Tsunami Early Warning System (TEWS) and Meteorological and Climatological Early Warning System (MCEWS).
This article is to present the disaster which is potentially faced by Indonesia and the need of early warning system. The enhancement of the systems and devices used in the TEWS and MCEWS is also discussed.
